Ecommerce major Amazon plans to provide packing supplies to all its sellers to enable uniformity. As of now, the parcels of sellers who are a part of Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) are packed with Amazon’s brand on them. For the sellers who use their own packaging, they can now buy packing material including thermocol balls, and boxes from Amazon.
Gopal Pillai, director of seller services, Amazon, explains,
“We have been piloting this for a while now and realised that it ensures consistency, enhances shopping experience and facilitates easy delivery and exchange.”

Strong packing helps the contents stay safe

Many sellers face the problem of damaged goods returned because of poor packaging. By ensuring that sellers stick to a company approved standardised packaging, Amazon is working towards reducing loss due to product returns and damaged products.
Experts agree. Sreedhar Prasad, Partner in Ecommerce at KPMG says,
“For sellers, this could mean a lesser rejection rate and lesser cost or wastage per packing, since the marketplace would be giving guidance in the art of packing. For the market place, this is an additional revenue stream from the ecosystem itself.” Two birds with one stone!”
Sellers are happy with the move as well.
“Now I can do away with the hassle of looking for the right wrapping materials. While Amazon has started this, Snapdeal still provides polybags,”feels Danish Lakdawala, an online gourmet products seller.
This is definitely a smart move. Amazon is thinking up intelligent ways to ease things for their sellers.
